For Censors, Pak, China are ‘friends’

With more than a couple of wars — overt as well as covert — having been fought with Pakistan and China, the two neighbouring countries have always been portrayed as India’s enemies and whenever a film has needed a dose of patriotism scriptwriters haven’t spared the two. But imagine the director’s surprise, when regional officer of the Censor Board, Danalaxmi, and her team insisted on severe cuts in dialogues, because actor Nagababu describes Pakistan and China as India’s “worst enemies” in the upcoming 1000 Abbadalu.

“Nagababu plays a key role, who is a patriot. In the film he tells his friends that we shouldn’t trust Pakistan and China, since they are our worst enemies.

“However, after watching the movie, Ms Danalaxmi insisted on those portions being deleted, by arguing that Pakistan and China were ‘friendly countries’. It took nearly two hours for director Teja to convince the regional officer,” says a source.

“Teja’s team even carried news clippings from DC to explain that Pakistan and China have always acted against our interests. She relented at last,” adds the source.

Director Teja, however, did not want to be dragged into the issue and said that he was busy working. “We had a few issues but they have been sorted out. There was no ‘war of words’,” he said.

Keeping the dialogues, however, has cost him dearly as the rom-com will be getting a U/A certificate despite having no bloodshed, ‘skin show’ or double entendres.
