HYDERABAD: The Telugu film industry is pitching for a hike in the film ticket rates once again. The industry is seeking a hike in the ticket rates of lower class, which had been left untouched in the GO issued last month.
The exhibitors, during a meeting with the executive committee of the AP Film Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, explained the need for a hike in the rates. According to exhibitors, a producer actually gets Rs 1.50 to Rs 2 per each ticket as his share from a lower class ticket, which is currently priced at Rs 10. Of the Rs 10 per ticket, theatre management is given Rs 3 as maintenance charge. From the remaining Rs 7, part of the money is paid as tax and for providing other amenities. Ultimately, the producer gets not more than Rs 2 as his share.
The state government on April 24 had issued a GO permitting the increase of ticket rates from Rs 55 to Rs 70 for air-cooled theatres, and up to Rs 75 for air-conditioned theatres for the upper class. The lower class rate was left untouched.
